Every year you receive solicitations; solicitations for everything from local community outreach programs to charity events to that neighborhood Girl Scout or Boy Scout troop. While those are causes worthy of your continued support, they most likely benefit a small group of individuals whom you will never see. Nor will you ever hear about the magnitude of your donation’s impact.

How about a donation that impacts YOU directly? We, who live in the State of Illinois, with its current leadership team in Springfield who, almost every day, appears to be digging a deeper and deeper fiscal hole, are seeing first hand how government can impact our personal and professional lives. That impact is not always positive.

Think back over the past 12 months. Can you think of one law that was passed or statute that was changed that had a negative impact on your personal life or on your business? I know I can. In fact, I can think of several.

YOU NEED A VOICE. We as title insurance professionals NEED A VOICE. We need to be heard. We need to participate in the government debate.

To that end, I am asking for your money. I am asking that you contribute something to ILTA-PAC. The amount doesn’t matter. Give $5. Give $50. Give $500. What matters most is not the amount of the individual donation but rather the NUMBER of donations. If our lawmakers knew that 12,500 title insurance professionals felt strongly enough to contribute their hard-earned money to the cause, those lawmakers will take notice. After all, your vote put them there.

Think about it, a Starbucks latte costs you about $5.00. One refinance transaction nets your company a couple hundred. Why not take that small amount of money and add to a collective amount that will be put to good use fighting for your livelihood. BE PART OF THE PROCESS.

To be clear, your money is not used to buy votes. It is used to gain access to meetings, events, functions, etc. all of which are vital moments to speak about our industry’s concerns.

Your money gives us a seat at the table. And it has been said, by people far more eloquent than I, “If you don’t have a seat at the table, you might end up being what’s on the table”. Not a good place to be.
