The Social Network

by Shawn Neely, ILTA Communications Committee Co-Chair

A couple of weeks ago I was traveling from Chicago to St. Louis to visit a client in Southern Illinois. As I was waiting at the gate for boarding to begin and I was already staring at the Facebook app on my phone anyway, I took a second to check-in at Midway International Airport to share with the world that I was on my way to St. Louis. Shortly after I boarded the plane and buckled up I checked my phone one last time before setting it to airplane mode and closing my eyes for the short flight. Within that time I had received a message from an old friend who lives in St. Louis hoping to catch up over a drink or lunch while I was in town. How great is that! We got together over a few drinks that night and had some laughs and reminisced. If it weren’t for social media and I hadn’t thought of posting about my travel I would have missed out on a great opportunity to catch up with an old friend.

How many opportunities and connections has your business missed out on because you don’t have a presence on social media? You have a captive audience through social media that others are utilizing every day. Don’t let that real estate agent, lender, attorney, etc., forget about you because your competitor is more “visible” then you are. It’s nothing to be afraid of and can really be a lot of fun!

Join us on Thursday April 12 at 10:00am for the next FREE ILTA webinar on the topic of Social Media Marketing presented by Wayne Stanley of Bowe Digital and sponsored by Old Republic National Title Insurance.
