Time of New Beginnings
by Patrick Malone, IEP
I enjoy the end of the year, it gives me a time to reflect on goals I set this year and what goals I want to achieve in the coming year. Two goals that I set are how can I better myself with knowledge of the Title industry and how can I give back to the industry, The ILTA helps me to accomplish these goals each year and in 2019 there is an extra opportunity to help all of us increase our leadership skills.
The year starts off with a great opportunity to give back to the industry with Lobby Day and Virtual Lobby Day. Lobby Day will be in Springfield March 20th; ILTA will be hosting a “virtual” lobby day whereby members who cannot make our Springfield lobby day, will be encouraged to meet with their elected Senators and Representatives in their district office the week of April 22nd. Materials will be provided to leave behind with your legislators on legislation important to our industry.
Another way to give back that allows our industry to continue to grow is with a contribution to the ILTA- Political Action Committee (ILTA-PAC); a small contribution will afford our legislative and lobby teams access to members of the General Assembly and statewide stakeholders. To give a contribution for 2019 contact Mike or Darlene at (217) 528-5230.
There are multiple opportunities to grow in knowledge in 2019 from the Annual Convention which will be held in Delavan, WI, on July 10-12, 2019. Not only will you hear and participate in presentations applicable to our industry, this is a great time to network with other title people. Save the date for the convention.
The IEP and ITP designation classes in the spring and fall allow you to start or finish your designation. These designations have become the standard of knowledge for either an escrow or title professional in Illinois. Not only will you leave each class with relevant information on significant topics to our industry, you will also add a new group of contacts in the industry.
The last opportunity is one that is designed to develop future title industry leaders. The program features speakers focused on different leadership axioms, including public speaking, leadership attributes, training your team, volunteer leadership, government advocacy and interpersonal skills in developing effective communication. The 2019 ILTA Leadership Academy is scheduled for September 10-11, 2019 at the Marriott Hotel & Conference Center in Bloomington/Normal, Illinois.
